Meet Pam Hanson

Pam is accepting new directees.

Our world is restless in so many ways.  Augustine of Hippo (354–430) said, “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.”  Spiritual direction (or guidance or companioning) is one path we may follow in search of this rest. Having a safe place to sit and pause, and a trustworthy person to sit with, may aid the process of listening for what can sound like very faint, elusive, or even non-existent footsteps of the Holy One who walks with us.

As a spiritual director, I listen out of my life experience in Protestant Christianity (I’ve worshipped and served in four mainline denominations and a non-denominational house church).  I have met with people who identify as Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and people who find their spiritual home in the 12-Step tradition.  I am open to meeting with those who walk in other faith pathways as well as those who are seeking a spiritual identity for the first time.

I participated in a 2-year Spiritual Direction Practicum through the Institute for Spiritual Development run by the Sisters of Mercy in Burlington, VT, completing the program in 2001.  I have been offering one-on-one spiritual direction/companioning since then.

My spirituality is nurtured by creativity and growth.  I seek these in God’s creation of our natural world and in the ongoing potential growth of both the earth and the humans who inhabit it.  I express my own creativity in gardening and the arts and grow through inner work with the Enneagram and other modalities.  Part of my role as a spiritual director involves identifying and encouraging creativity and growth in those I sit with, as we listen together for Spirit.  I am a retired architect, married, and the mother of two adult children and two grandchildren.  I have lived outside the U.S. and in six states, in both small town and urban areas.

Perhaps our paths will cross and we will walk together for a distance.  In any case,

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

May the rain fall soft upon your fields,

and until we meet again,

May you rest in the palm of God’s hand.

I meet with seekers at my home in Amery, Wisconsin or by videoconferencing (Zoom).
