Groundings is a monthly lecture series offered by Sacred Ground in collaboration with Loyola Spirituality Center and the Ignatian Spirituality Center at Saint Thomas More. Groundings is open to anyone interested in deepening their spirituality, their capacity for deep listening, and their contemplative engagement in our world.
This April, we look forward to welcoming Claire Bischoff as she invites us to explore two spiritual practices connected with art: one ancient, one contemporary.
First, we will learn about praying with icons, a centuries-old practice grounded in the Orthodox Christian tradition. Second, we will experiment with prayer doodling, a practice developed by Sybil MacBeth. Both of these practices are widely adaptable for use with individuals and groups and with an array of artistic and natural media.
Claire Bischoff has taught theology and spirituality at all levels, from Vacation Bible School and middle school religion at Holy Spirit Catholic Church to undergraduate and graduate students at St. Catherine University. She currently teaches high school religion at Cretin-Derham Hall High School, which has turned out to be her dream job. She is the co-editor of two essay collections: My Red Couch and Other Stories of Seeking a Feminist Faith and Parenting as Spiritual Practice and Source for Theology: Mothering Matters. She lives in St. Paul with her three children.
