Meet Peter Watkins

Peter is accepting new directees.

I hold a Master’s of Divinity degree from the University of St. Thomas, and I completed the spiritual direction certificate program at Sacred Ground in 2009.  I am certified to give the Ignatian Exercises and have been a faculty member at Sacred Ground since 2016.  I taught high school theology/philosophy for many years and during that time I especially loved leading student justice trips to Guatemala and pilgrimages on the Camino de Santiago in Spain.  I have also taught graduate classes in Old Testament Theology and Adolescent Psychology and Spirituality at the University of St. Thomas. Since 2012, I have accompanied diaconal and priestly candidates in their year-long discernment process for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota.  Having retired from teaching, my main vocation is currently the practice of spiritual direction and retreat ministry. I strive to have a learner’s stance, drawing from Ignatian, Franciscan and Benedictine traditions in my practice.

I am committed to a daily contemplative prayer practice of centering prayer, lectio divina, and journaling, striving for the inner freedom to come home again and again to God’s mercy and love, and to be fully present to those I accompany in spiritual direction.

I identify as Christian, rooted in Catholic Spirituality.  I see people at Carondelet Center, in my home, and remotely.
