Meet Dana Essex, PhD

Dana is accepting new directees.

Hello. I am Dana, The Compassion Companion, your spiritual friend. I’ve been called spiritual director, chaplain, researcher, healthcare leader, singer, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend. My calling today is to deeply listen to how you experience the divine, your higher power, your god. I sit with you as you uncover your spiritual intelligence which leads to deeper meaning, a more purposeful life, and perhaps a new calling.  Personal religion or faith are not necessary for our work together. I work comfortably between doubt and faith, religion and no religion, recognizing that certainty is not necessary for spiritual growth.

I am a certified spiritual director from Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality, with additional training in the Ignatian Exercises, Examen, Enneagram, Heart Math, mindfulness practices, evidence-based self-care and care-giving, and group spiritual direction. I was a chaplain intern at North Memorial Health. I spent my corporate career leading healthcare process improvement. My research interests are in positive psychology.

I am a Contemplative Practice Leader and teacher for the 2022 – 2025 Lilly Foundation grant to the University of St. Catherine for development of congregational discipleship. I teach positive psychology courses for the City of Plymouth Parks and Recreation 55+ adults education program.

Individual and group spiritual direction sessions typically occur monthly. Openings are available by appointment after a no-obligation meeting without charge.
