Meet Brad Huard

Brad is accepting new directees.

Brad’s spiritual journey is grounded in Ignatian, Franciscan, Benedictine, and Carmelite spirituality, influencing his engagement in the world and his approach to spiritual direction.  Spiritual direction is about seeing our real-world experiences through the lens of a living and loving God.  He brings a unique perspective to this ministry with years of experience in assisted living administration, hospitality, low-income housing, retail, prison ministry, outreach, social justice, and education, as well as experience as a pastoral minister, Befriender Ministry, mentor, prayer and worship leader, and former Capuchin Franciscan Friar.

He graduated from the University of Detroit with a religious studies and psychology degree. He received his spiritual direction certification through Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality in St. Paul, MN., and has training in Enneagram and Ignatian Exercises.

Reflecting on his call to be a spiritual director, Brad writes:

Knowing that I live and have being because God loves me, I chose to respond to God’s love as a Spiritual Director and companion because each of us has the very DNA of the Divine Presence within our being.  Thomas Merton calls it “le point vierge,” or the virginal point within that belongs to God.

At the center of our being is a point of pure truth, a point or spark which belongs entirely to God…This little point is the pure glory of God in us. It is, so to speak, God’s name written in us. It is like a pure diamond, blazing with the invisible light of heaven. It is in everybody, and if we could see it, we would see these billions of points of light coming together in the face and blaze of a sun that would make all the darkness and cruelty of life vanish completely….

Seeing glimpses of that “le point vierge” in myself and others in spiritual direction is a humbling experience and has been a greater gift than I could ever have imagined.

Brad enjoys expressing his creativity and curiosity through reading, writing, photography, gardening, and interior design.  He lives in Oak Creek, WI, where he sees directees in person or via Zoom/FaceTime.
